Poll shows bad news for California

Poll shows bad news for California

California voters, by a narrow margin, are opposed to a measure on the November ballot to legalize marijuana, according to a new Field Poll (pdf-file) released yesterday. And that sucks. Come on, guys, it's all a matter of good marketing!

Full legalization in California?

Complete legalization in California?

When it comes to worldwide drug policy, the US is a leading country. What they do, other countries will most likely follow. So it's great to see so many states in the US are finally turning around when it comes to cannabis. More and more Americans get the possibility to use cannabis without the fear of getting arrested. I live in Amsterdam, so I don't even know what it is to live with that fear, but I assume it must be great for you guys over there. But I don't get this whole medical thing though. You guys need to pay a doctor first to get a license or something, so you can finally smoke your cannabis? Come on, get real! Cannabis needs to be completely legal. For medical AND for non-medical users. So it's great to hear California will vote for complete legalization this November. Rock on!

Bill 390 APPROVED!

Bill 390 APPROVED!

The proposal to legalize and tax marijuana in California has been approved by the key committe of the Assembly. Police chiefs and prosecutors gave some dire warnings, but in the end there was victory. The Public Safety Committee voted 4-3 to approve AB 390 by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, who said the bill would provide tax revenue to the state and regulation of the drug. The new law does include a requirement that users be at least 21 years old. Good stuff, and now go for the finish.

California: Assembly Bill 390

Assembly Bill 390, the Marijuana Control, Regulation, and Education Act

In 1913 California became one of the first states in the US to enact cannabis prohibition. But next week, Tuesday January 12, members of the Californian Assembly will hold a historic vote on statewide marijuana policy. They will then decide on Assembly Bill 390, the Marijuana Control, Regulation, and Education Act. After almost a 100 years (!) this is the first bill introduced to legalize the sale and use of marijuana in California. Exciting or what? If you're a California resident you can even help by showing your support. Please check out the website of NORML where you can find more information.

Quote of the Day

"It really puzzles me to see marijuana connected with narcotics… dope and all that crap. It's a thousand times better than whiskey - it's an assistant - a friend."
